Her could haves...

She could have been happy.

She could have walked down that aisle with the boy of her dreams, even though she never quite had faith in the idea of marriage.

She could have built a home with him, with their Japanese dog named after Korean spirit. She might even have had two or three mischievous little ones running around the house - all with just one syllabus in their names - even though she always pictured her future home to be a place of solitude.

They could have travelled the world hand in hand, one by one checking off the things that they wrote in their bucket list while they were still in their teens.

They could have hung out with their group of childhood buddies till they were grey and old, clanking their pints of Guinness as they did since they were of legal age.

But she chose not to. She chose to leave this life of certainty and comfort behind her, and take the step out on the choppy waters. She knew it wasn't going to be easy; but she also knew that it was something she had to do.

One day, she might look back at the year 2 0 1 9 and realise how foolish she was for letting go of something that could have been everything that she could ever ask for. Or perhaps, she might be relieved that she followed her heart and took the (absolutely impulsive) step of faith. Who knows? She might just find her happiness with someone else. Or she might find joy in carving out her destiny all by herself with her family and mates.

God knows; but I think she'll be okay.
